Google Play Services GPS Crash

I'm running OCT-M 6.0.1. Every time google apps try to access location services, I get play services crashing. This does not happen with non-google apps such as waze or GPS Test.

I've tried reinstalling play services to the latest, reinstalled google maps, and cleared data for services and framework (backed up beforehand of course).

Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm unsure where to find a crash log.

Data working but streaming services like YouTube and Pandora having issues.

Verizon Note 3 N900v on StraightTalk

The issue I'm having is slightly odd, data works fine the majority of the time but streaming stuff such as YouTube videos and Pandora songs won't work most of the time. Also sometimes data doesn't work at all and I have to turn data off and then back on a few times to get it working again. Right now Pandora works but still having issues with YouTube. Everything is working fine on my wife's OnePlus One and she's on ST as well, so I don't believe it to be a carrier issue. Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix or potential solution?

Problem with Google services connection

Hi,
my phone is:
  • Redmi 3 Pro

  • Android 5.1.1 LMY47V

  • Miui Global stable 7.3.2.0.0 (LHPCNDD)

After two weeks of perfect usage, a problem with Google services connection appeared:
can't sync, can't enter gmail, Play Market, can't add new Google account, etc.
I've tried:
  • deleting Play Market's cache - no results

  • removing current Google account - no success, "doesn't permitted by administrator"

  • add new Google account - no success, since there's no connection to Google services.

  • reinstall Google services - no success, phone isn't rooted

  • back to factory defaults - worked for another two weeks, but then the problem reappeared.

Two weird things:
  1. once in a while, in a couple of days, connection reestablishes for a minute and a sync is done

  2. after a restart of the phone, connection to Google is good, but disappears after 2-3 minutes.

Is there any things I can try to do before flashing a new ROM?

5 hour keep awake today killed my battery.....

'Unfortunately , Google Play services has stopped.'

I kinda broke my phone i think.
Long story short, I tried to fix the google play service battery drain, I had version 9.2.56.(440) I tried the GServiceFix app thingy on Play Store, which is meant to fix exactly that, and it did! But after about a week the problem came back and battery started draining again. I tried the app again, but this time no affect on battery drain after reboot. So I went on and downloaded an older version of google play service, but battery drain was the same.

THEN, I went on and ran the GServiceFix app while using the old version of Google Play Service, and since then I'm constantly getting "Google Play Services has suddenly stopped". I tried installing the updated version, but that didn't help.
While in Safe Mode, I'm not getting this pop up, so I figured a full phone wipe would be the solution, but problem still persists even after a complete wipe.

HELP :(

Google Play Services - Location and Battery Life

Hello all,
I recently flashed CyanogenMod on my Galaxy S5 and I've been trying to stop Google Play Services eating my battery. I've got Xposed and Amplify installed and I followed this guide

At 75% battery, Google Play has used 7%, Android OS 5%, Android System 2%. Compare this to my sisters phone, which is a HTC One M8, running Marshmallow Google Play Edition, Play services accounts for around 1% over a full charge.

I noticed that Google Play is constantly checking my location, I had the problem running both stock ROM and CyanogenMod. I don't use Google now and I've got Location History turned off. I've even set location to GPS only, but somehow Google still constantly checks my coarse location. I've disabled everything I can think of that might use my location, even auto time zone. Initially I had a fresh install of CyanogenMod, Pico Gapps (Play Services and Play Store only), no Google account, but Play Services was still checking my location constantly. Using Amplify I've also disabled any services with "location" or "GPS" in the title.

According to Wake Lock Detector, my battery stats are pretty good. At 75% battery, Play Services has kept my phone awake for only 1 minute and 2 seconds. Awake time is usually around 2%, until I use Endomondo.

Any ideas where my battery power is going and how can I stop Google checking my location all the time?

Thanks in advance :)

Can't update google play services after restore to stock firmware !!!

:confused:I was on AryMod MM 6.0 v6 but GPS was a little problematic so I decided to go back to a stock rom. After a successful restore I couldn't access my google apps after update. I tried another stock firmware but got the same results. Older apks with .438 install correctly but the problem persists. I tried installing the latest apk from apkmirror but I get an error.

PS : after a google search I found a couple of note 3 owners (N9005) that have the same problem:confused:

Google Play Services, Samsung S II epic touch and high battery use

Have a Samsung S2 Sprint Epic Touch D710, Android 4.0.4. One day things were working fine in the morning, then in the early evening while sitting idle, the battery low warning sounded. Pick up the phone and it was very hot. First thought the battery was just bad so I installed a new one once it cooled and charged it. Turn it on and it gets very hot while at idle, and just hot while in use.

Started looking and found "Google Play Services" was at the top in Battery use. The use changes values, but usually in the high 60's to 70's percent range. Also see "Android System" sometimes fights for the top in use with "Google Play Services". And a few times "Android OS" will be above "Screen" in the Battery menu.
While searching for a fix I tried the "clear cache" fix and it did not help. Then I ran across "GSeviceFix" app so I installed that and it did not help at all. I read about starting in Safe Mode so one I figured out how to do that, the phone would not overheat and the battery drain was gone. But my phone service provider (freedompop) app would not work proper and Gmail does not work proper while in Safe Mode.

I found here that a "Fix" was to install "Disable Services" app and disable two Google Location services. I rooted using Kingo (I rooted before I tried the "GServicesFix") and disabled these two services. Not a fix!
Also notice that when I first turn the phone on, it seems to stay cool and no battery drain. But once I open Gmail (have not tried other apps to see if the affect in the same way), even if I close it in the app manager, the phone starts to warm and the battery drain continues. This seems to happen if I do so much as to go into Apps-Settings-Battery just to see what is at the top (Usually Google Play Services). So I don't think it is just related to Gmail.

I also uninstalled all the apps that I never used and were disabled. Google Music, Google+, Google Books, Giggity Giggity Google, Sprint Nascar. . . All that junk. Then I did a Factory Reset. Installed the Gmail app but could not use it as it needs Google Services. As soon as I installed Google Play Services, the heat was on and the battery drained fast. I also tried to limit data usage for the Google Play service but that also did not help.

If no one has an answer to why and what to do about Google Play Services drain on the battery, maybe someone can answer what does not come one when started in "Safe Mode"? I suppose since it is a third party app, I cant look at what is running and what is not with the "Disable Services" App. It does not show on the phone when in Safe Mode.
If I knew what was not starting when in Safe Mode, perhaps I could try turning those things off with the Disable Services app one at a time or so until the drain slows down or sets things as it should be with "Screen" at the top of the battery use list and not in 4th place.

Updated Google Play Services killing my phone(s)

I'm running stock AT&T 4.0.4 ROM, rooted with CWM. Google Play Services just updated to version 9.2.56 (034-124593566), and it's sucking my battery dry and making the phone run hot. I have a spare phone and brought it online, and the same thing happened as soon as Google Play Services updated. It is running anywhere from 50% to 80% of my battery when the screen is below 10%. Yep, it's using more than 10x what the screen requires. Battery that used to last 18 hours now lasts 2 to 3. Others have posted similar comments in the Play Store (like that's going to do any good). Common theme is it's older OSes.

I have tried disabling everything and it doesn't do any good. Too many things break if Google Play Services is removed. Going back to an old version is futile -- it self-updates within minutes. I tried GServiceFix and it works for few minutes, then the usage creeps up again.

I sent Google an email, but I expect nothing less than the run-around. So, I turn to XDA Developers.

First, is anyone else here still running stock, and did the same thing happen to you? How about on other ROMs (please specify)? Did you find a fix?

Assuming Google will do little to help, I need to do something to make my phone work right. So if there is a ROM where this is not a problem, I guess it's time to jump in. Problem is, some of the links in this forum are broken. I've found (or already had) most of what I think I need except a version or EFS Professional that works on our phone. I can find no working links to an older version that will do the job. I do have a Nandroid backup (also stored on my NAS), which I believe can restore the EFS, but I'd like to get just the EFS in case I need to load it to the system after flashing. None of the tools available in the Play Store seem to work on the Glide -- I end up with an empty backup directory.

My plan, assuming there is a Jellybean ROM without this issue, is to flash twrp-2.8.4-flashable.zip, since I understand TWRP is required for JB, then do another Nandroid backup with it, then flash whichever ROM is suggested to get over this. I've looked at Bubor's CM10.2, and it looks like it will fill my needs unless it also suffers this problem. If there is a reason I should update the Kernel, please let me know. I have not seen anything that makes me believe I need to.

Man, I wish one of the manufacturers would come out with a similarly sized new phone with a slide-out keyboard and AT&T compatible. I'd gladly upgrade, but there is nothing out there that meets my needs. Samsung S5 mini with slider -- I'm in.

Bootloader unlock, DRM untrusted and services like Amazon Video and Spotify

Hi,

just got my G5 (H850 EU model) and was reading about the process to unlock the bootloader and get root.

On LG's page it says that as part of the unlocking, the DRM protection will "become untrusted". Can anyone confirm whether Amazon Video and Spotify work despite this?

I am coming from a rooted Oneplus 2 (switching only because of non-expandable storage on the Oneplus 2) and both Amazon Video and Spotify work flawlessly on the device. But then I don't know anything about the status of the DRM protection on it and if it was changed when I rooted the phone.

If I cannot use these two services, the G5 would not be reasonable replacement, of course.

Thanks for any info,
M

IPSec Services?

This issue appeared on 5.0 and was related to WiFi Calling, IPSec services would grow and grow until it filled the entire storage. I thought in 6.0 the issue would be resolved but no still present, is there anyway to clear the storage used by IPSec services or is the only solution not to use WiFi calling?

Google Play Services storage/battery/CPU use problem

Hello,

I noticed on this week that Google Play Service -module was using a huge amount of battery (~80 %), also noticed that the service was using a lot of storage (~2 GB). Aswell, the phone was totally stuck. I tried to uninstall the updates of that service and also cleared all the data. That helped for a while, but soon the storage use started to raise again very quickly. After that I did factory reset, but even that didn't help.

Because of no luck with factory reset, I started to investigate where that data is located. Found that file /data/data/com.google.android.gms/databases/context_MYNAME_gmail.com.db was getting bigger and bigger, the size was raising about 1 MB per minute. I managed to open the file when that was quite small, the file contained binary data, but I was able to see string "com.google.android.contextmanager.module.UserLoca tionModule" repeatedly. Basically something was writing data to that file in a loop and the phone was getting more and more stuck.

So the problem is most probably somehow related to the GPS locations. Seems like that the problem does not occur if I disable the GPS location system OR I allow the Google to get my current location.

Any ideas how to solve the problem? Thanks!

Phone: Nexus 5 (rooted)
Android: KitKat 4.4.4 (app updates installed)
