Question before buy

Hello, i have a couple of questions and need help to decide if i should buy the LG G3 855 (BR edition) vs the Moto X Play.
Well, first off, independent of the phone that i'll get, i'll install TWRP and CM13, i can't have a phone without it.
So, is the G3 easy to unlock the bootloader (specially this version that i would get)?

Also, it's a 16gb of storage and 2gb of RAM (same as the Moto X play), but i have a huge question.
Is the SD 801 better them the 615 from the Moto X play?
How does CM13 run on that chipset too?

And last but not least... how is android dev going to this device, will it "die soon", or it's at full steam still?

Thanks :)

Questions before buying unlocked phone

Hi,

I'm looking into buying a Z5 Compact unlocked since I don't want something 5 inches or bigger.

I'm hoping to not install custom roms, at least not until Sony stops supporting it.

I've got a few questions :
Will I be able to get the stock rom updates from Sony or manually install them (without unlocking the bootloader)? My carrier doesn't sell the Z5 or Z5 Compact so I doubt I will receive updates from it.
I have read a few threads that makes me worried about the phone. People seems to say it's sluggish and the camera app takes a while to start. Is it working better on the latest stock rom?
Is the stock rom good or should I really look into flashing a custom rom?

Would you guys recommend another Android phone? I would like a compact phone that can last me for a good 3 years, maybe a little more. Right now I own a Nexus 4 that is a little over 3 years old and while it still working rather well it is starting to show signs of its age (like the battery that doesn't last for very long anymore and the phone sometimes struggle running the latest games...)

Thanks

Best way to backup everything before flashing new ROM?

Hi everyone, so I was wondering what was the best way to backup everything, apps, apps' data and system settings before flashing a new ROM or the same but with new base (which usually requires a clean install).

I've been told that the TWRP backup isn't that great because it'll bring over the "junk" from the previous version, and it doesn't really backup photos for instance.

Samsung's SmartSwitch, at least for me, doesn't backup applications at all. I've tried the phone version as well as the computer one, the phone one crashes once it gets to the app part, the computer one finishes but then there are no apps backed up.

I tried Titanium Backup but I don't know exactly which is the best option, should I be backup just apps and data? Or system data as well? If the correct way is both and let's say that the new ROM is "more" debloated", wouldn't I be putting back in the bloatware by backing up system data as well?

As far as system is concerned I just want to backup something like alarms, memo, system settings like brightness and I think that's more or less it.

Thanks a lot to anyone that helps me, I've been making tons of backup recently trying to find the best solution but couldn't.

Before I root...

I love the stock experience and am unrooted and pure. I want to root purely to flash Dolby Atmos zip. However I heard rooting phones don't play well with Android Pay or some banking apps. Is this true? Am in the UK.

Finally, if I decide to unroot, is this possible so I can go back to the state of pure unmodified stock rom?

Thank you!

One M7 Bootloop without flashing stuff before

Hi,

my Phone restarted spontaneously today and is now stuck in a bootloop. I tried to turn it off by holding the power button but that didn't work. Even when I enter the bootloader, the phone continues rebooting all the time. I only see the white htc screen for a second and then the device reboots again and again, until the battery is empty.

I didn't flash anything new before this happened. The device worked pretty well with CM 12.1 for a long time.

Is there a change to repair this? Is it a hardware issue?

Which rom to flash before twrp & custom rom?

What is the latest ROM we can use before we flash a custom ROM to avoid battery bug?

think i bricked my gf note 4 please help before i get killed!!

ok so we both have note 4s and i rooted both of our phones many months ago. i put poprocks v.13 on both phones and everything worked out fine. well over time that rom became outdated so i decided to update the phones. i updated mine to N910TUVU2EPE3_N910TTMB2EPE3_N910TUVU2EPE3_HOME.tar modem and the overdrive rom. had a few hick ups but over all went fine and my phone works great. so i decided to upgrade hers tonight. i put her phone into download mode and started odin. loaded the N910TUVU2EPE3_N910TTMB2EPE3_N910TUVU2EPE3_HOME.tar .md5 and hit start. well it failed and now the phone wont do anything. no matter what i do in odin it fails. ive tried cf-auto root it fails to. phone under download mode says blocked by r/l. odin usally stays stuck on setup connection. any ideas how to get this thing working again before she kills me?

Questions before updating to CM 13

Hi there!

I've been enjoying CM 13 on my Nexus 5, so I thought I might as well update my Moto X Play to it. I'm currently running stock Indian firmware (single SIM, dual SIM-ified).

The only part of the process which is not very clear to me is what happens with my SD card, which is currently formatted as internal storage. Is there any way to preserve that data? I don't really mind formatting the card again, but it would speed up the process if I don't have to do it.

Last, is there a way in CM for all the apps to always be installed to the SD card by default? After MM, every time an app upgrades I have to manually move it, which is not ideal...

Thanks!

Soft Bricked Phone - Anyway to recover files/pics before flashing back to stock

I bricked my samsung s6 (verizon) 5.0.2 which was rooted by trying to install TWRP through the playstore. I was not aware that it required an unlocked bootloader.

Anyways, I would like to go back to stock without losing all my files (videos, pics, texts). If I flash to stock using Odin, from what I understand, I will be a factory reset so i lose everything.

Does anyone have a tutorial or advice for getting these files back before flashing back to stock?

Thanks in advance!

Hi
I want to lock my phone, not only password protected system and encrytion of my data/files , I want that a thief will get mad and have no fun with it
=> For that (only) a password boot protection against download mode and recovery mode is the way.
Seems to me that this function is missing ?!

Intercepting permission request from application before the system permission check

I am developing a system to grant/deny permissions to Android applications' request based on certain scenario. For this purpose, I want to intercept the request call for permission from android application before the system performs its standard permission verification process. Where should I write my code to Intercept the request call? In 'ActivityManagerService.checkComponentPermission() ' , 'ActivityManager.checkComponentPermission()', or at some other location?

Mi4i (ferrari)-Prepared device before flashing custom rom ( cm 12 / cm 13 )

My experience flashing ferrari Mi4i with cm 12.1 from stock MIUI 7, and face bootloop. some thread suggesting flash MIUI stock 6 or lower. Downloading fastboot rom of about 900 MB painful for slow internet. after investigating, the bootloop is caused by CM 12.1 (including Mokee rom) built with compatibility on stock rom 6 or lower. So I repack the tools from fastboot stock rom Mi4iGlobal_V6.5.4.0.LXIMICD and delete userdata.img, system.img, ADDED TWRP-3.0.0-ferrari (to replace stock recovery): modify the script to achieve Mi4i stage to ready to flash with custom rom (cm 12 probably cm 13) and no bootloopTested with cm 12.1
PC Pre-requirements :
Your ferrari
  • Download custom rom your wish to flash to ferrari

  • Download appropriate gapps

  • Dowload supersu (not mandatory)

  • Put all zip file in your root of sdcard storage (internal storare)

In Your PC : windows or linux
  1. Working fastboot (and adb) on the PC

  2. USB Driver for ferrari installled

Procedure
  1. Dowdload zipped tools HERE

  2. Extract the tools any where in your home directore

  3. Open Terminal/console > Navigate to the extracted folder

  4. Turn your ferrari to fastboot mode ( push power button and volume down simultaneously)

  5. Connect ferrari to PC via usb
    • For linux > execute $sh linux-flash-mi4i_b4_cm.sh > hit enter. Note : if you should use sudo to access fastboot execute $ sudo sh linux-flash-mi4i_b4_cm.sh

    • For window > double click win-flash_mi4i_b4_cm.bat

After finishing flashing your ferrari will still in FASTBOOT MODE. Switch off (push power button and release) push volume up before release. Sub all going well you will prompted with TWRP 3 on your ferrari do flashing your customs ROM :
  1. Wipe system, cache, dalvik cache (NOTE : do not wipe /sdcard coz you have custom rom.zip and gapps.zip for flashing)

  2. Install cm rom zip, gapps .zip

  3. Wipe cache

  4. Reboot to system

  5. Enjoy CM without bootlop
