Trying to recover photos on soft-bricked phone

Hi all,

This is my first post here, I'll try to include everything but please let me know if I am missing any info. I'm using Windows 10, my phone is using Stock ROM 6.0.1, carrier unlocked from Telus to Rogers but bootloader shows device is Locked.

TLDR: I'm trying to recover the photos from my soft-bricked phone before doing a factory reset. I've tried to manually flash the firmware with fastboot by following the steps in service.xml, but the commands all appear to return OKAY without errors but there's no change in the phone's behaviour.

More Info: I've spent the last 2 days reading up on here and elsewhere online to learn as much as I can. I am honestly not sure what caused it the soft-brick. I was using my phone normally yesterday morning when it froze while browsing Facebook, so I tried to power it down, but I got caught in a bootloop and it wouldn't go past the logo screen. It's part of my morning routine to run updates, and I often (though not yesterday) transfer files to/from the phone through a USB cable, so could it be an internal memory problem? Other possibilities, while I was careful ultimately I did download an apk for Pokemon Go before it was released in my country, and I did also download a battery saving app, so there's risks from both of those but the timing seems wrong...

I can get into bootloader and recovery mode, but not factory mode. Wiping the cache partition did not help. The only way to power the phone down is from bootloader, otherwise the phone goes straight to the logo screen.

I've installed ADB/Fastboot using the 15 Second ADB Installer here, and believe I have all of the correct drivers from the WinDroid install. However I did not enable USB Debugging before this happened, so the only way I can get ADB to see the devices is to go to "Apply update from ADB" in recovery mode, but running "adb devices" brings the phone up as sideload. If I'm in bootloader, "fastboot devices" sees it, "adb devices" comes back empty.

I used the file XT1563_LUX_RETCA-ROGERS_6.0.1_MPD24.107-52_cid14_subsidy-RGRCA_CFC.xml.zip from the File Factory folder, and it looks right according to the software version in the .xml files, but I'm still new to this and I'm not sure if my best guess is educated enough.

In general I'm not too squeamish about voiding the warranty and don't care about losing my apps, it's the photos that I really do not want to lose (shame on me for not backing those up!). I'm wondering if there's a way to get my photos back before unlocking or doing a factory reset, but if there's a reliable recovery software I can use after the fact I may have to bite the bullet.

TIA for any help.

LG G4 H811 bricked? How to recover?

So at first- i backed up all my data on my microsd (and actually- still have it using the LG Backup app included with the phone.)

I didn't even flash a new stock, already had a gsm unlocked device, so i did adb fastboot, unlocked bootloader, installed twrp properly, and pretty much recovered all data after first time booting into the cleared stock Android Marshmallow version (20i.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmob...hable-t3308227
I used the tutorial above to go through this process.

Everything had seemed fine, flashed/installed root through instructions, had root, etc. Then I went through the process of flashing and getting Xposed through multiple tutorials like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpos...posed-t3072979

The device was now stuck in a boot loop and I could only get into TWRP recovery. So I downloaded the stock flashable zip and flashed it and now- nothing. the screen was black upon reboot. I tried plugging it in, computer is making confirmation sound like a usb device was recognized but nothing pops up. How exactly do I unbrick and get back to stock? I have all my main data still backed up on my microsd.

(Also, I apologize for this being in the wrong forum since I am new. Please redirect me as you please.)

[HOW-TO] Recover from hard brick QHSUSB_BULK

Save your dead/bricked device! Overall a straightforward process. Simple recovery using SD card to load correct bootloader and be able to ODIN stock firmware.

Successfully performed on a locked bootloader Note 4 from Verizon, using another locked bootloader Note 4 from Verizon. Should be equally possible with other devices as well as the T Flash function does not check the device model, and writes the entire firmware, according to the included or specified PIT file into the SD card.

Requirements:
Secondary Samsung device with working download mode and microSD slot
Odin version appropriate to the firmware version you are trying to install
16+ GB microSD card
Samsung drivers installed on your PC

Steps:
1) Find and download the correct FULL firmware for your device, of the same or newer version than was on the device previously. These are frequently available from AFH, amongst other sites. A "repair firmware" may be sufficient ONLY IF IT INCLUDES ABOOT and BOOT partitions.
2) Download the correct version of Odin for your firmware
3) Open Odin, set up your full firmware into the AP/PDA slot.
4) Tick the T Flash option in the settings.
5) Insert a 16+ GB card into the SD slot on your working Samsung device
6) Boot into download mode, and connect to computer. Ensure the device shows up in Odin. If not, check drivers and restart (and reconfigure) Odin.
7) Start flash. It may fail at a certain point but this is OKAY. As long as the ABOOT and BOOT partitions have flashed, the procedure will work.
8) Remove SD from the working device and insert it into the bricked device.
9) Hold VOLUME DOWN + HOME + POWER, or use a USB jig to enter into download mode on the dead device. It will now magically work, as it reads the partitions from the SD card.
10) Reflash the correct firmware in Odin to the bricked device.

Hope I was able to help. Do note that this will NOT solve issues with your device if it has PHYSICAL eMMC issues (cracked solder balls, bad chip, bad connections, etc, etc).

The "magic" SD card will only work on the device it was intended for. Don't attempt "miracles" by say, trying to boot firmware intended for a different model on your device. That may cause permanent damage, for which I will not be held responsible.

This tutorial should be equally acceptable for other devices. I am posting it here because it worked successfully on my Note 4, and I'm assuming other people here may have the same issue. Originally I tried this on an S5 with heavy motherboard damage, which would only render a download mode screen, but would not flash anything to the device.

Anyone with an interest in making a donation, please contact me for donation info or donate to your charity of choice :)

Most information presented here is publicly available but there was no simple/accurate way detailing the process, so I assumed it would be nice to have all info aggregated in one place.

Unlock Boot-Loader without installing a custom recover

Hello, I've been searching for a method of unlocking the boot-loader on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) without installing any custom recoveries in the process, and I unable to find a way. My goal is simply to unlock the boot-loader, then download the TWRP manager from the play store afterwards so I can install Xposed framework and so on. The note 3 is running on Android Lolipop 5.0. Any method of instruction would be appreciated. Thanks.

Recover lost data

(phone: Moto G 3rd gen, 5.1.1)
Hello,

I've been looking to recover lost data from wechat (images) for the past few days, and am still looking for a decent application/way to do this.

For example "Dr. Fone" and variants all allow you to select the same kind of stuff, but they only scan some specific folders. I would need to scan the whole internal memory.
Next step was to find out how to access the internal memory as a USB mass storage device, but that doesn't seem to work in my Android OS.

Interestingly enough "Dr. Fone" did some kind of quick-root (non destructive root) and was running a simple program on the phone itself for scanning.
I assume they rooted because the windows application said so and because from what I gathered is that Google now uses MTP by default because of a host of difficulties to simultaneous access files/partitions if you're using USB instead of MTP.

Furthermore these wechat images are located under /tencent/micromsg/WeChat, so I don't know if they are taking into account when scanning the phone.

What I'm looking for is an application like Recuva, but than for MTP devices. From what I gather is that this is not possible due to MTP.
So the next question would be: how do I gain temporary root on my device so I can for example install a USBMS enabler? After that I can use Recuva to go through it.

Or another question would be what application allows me to not only select the default categories, but just give me a folder structure and/or list of files (preferably with a filetime and a preview)?

Thanks!

Soft Bricked Phone - Anyway to recover files/pics before flashing back to stock

I bricked my samsung s6 (verizon) 5.0.2 which was rooted by trying to install TWRP through the playstore. I was not aware that it required an unlocked bootloader.

Anyways, I would like to go back to stock without losing all my files (videos, pics, texts). If I flash to stock using Odin, from what I understand, I will be a factory reset so i lose everything.

Does anyone have a tutorial or advice for getting these files back before flashing back to stock?

Thanks in advance!

Recover multi-user in Marshmallow (without unlocking)

The Marshmallow update had a warning that multi-user function would go away if you didn't keep your account. I did not realize that meant one could never again do a factory reset in the future or would loose that functionality...

Is there a way to recover it? I still had my 2nd account (and thus the functionality) after the update, but I did a factory reset and now can't create a second account anymore. I want to keep the warranty so I'm not unlocked (and thus not rooted). Thanks!

Create a full backup to recover from without root

I have a LH H343/Risio. I want to root it so I can use my sd as internal storage. I can't find anu specific ways of rooting, so I was just going to use kingroot one click. But I am worried about bricking my phone. I have read around thay your an create an image to recover from if you brick it. Honestly, I am not sure how to even recover if it does happen, it is impossible to find any info breaking it all down. But I figure I should make an image just in case. But I can't find any way to make an image without root, which defeats the whole idea of having an image to restore from if I brick in the process of rooting. So what I am looking for os comprehensive guides to.
1. Rooting LG H343/Risio
2. Making an image to recover from without root.
3. How to restore from that image if I brick my phone

Sorry for the noob questions, but I have beem searching all day and can't find anything solid that makes me confident in what I'm doing.

Thanks a ton!
