What's the Best Way to Get Into Recovery Mode?

So, this is a really dumb question, but I suppose better to ask than mess something up.

So I finally rooted my Z5 Compact with this excellent guide, and everything went off without a hitch. The guide had me set my bootloader back to "Bootloader unlock allowed" before I was done, which, if I'm understanding things correctly, means that I relocked the bootloader (or at least, it looks locked).

My issue is this. I'd like to install this audio tweak, but the instructions require me to put the device into Recovery Mode (CWM or TWRP or Philz Recovery). First, what's the best way of doing that, and second, is that going to require me re-unlocking my bootloader, or is my bootloader actually already unlocked? If I have to unlock my boot loader again, does that mean I need to restore my DRM keys again?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

NEED HELP! Can't tell what's wrong with my Galaxy S3!!

Let me start with some details about the phone:

- It's a Sprint Samsung Galay S3, SPH-L710
- It was rooted and Cyanogenmod was installed successfully, no problems
- Phone was given to my aunt, and she used it for a while

Here's the problem:

A little while ago, she told me the phone turned off and wouldn't turn off again. I told her to charge the phone and see if that helped. She charged the phone and waited for the battery animation to show up full, and then turn on the phone. It booted past the Galaxy S3 logo, past the animated purple Samsung logo, got halfway through the Sprint 4G LTE boot animation with the music and then boom. Shut off. And then back to the battery charging screen but displayed the battery as if it was only 15% remaining. What?? Wasn't it full a minute ago???

Here's what I did to fix it:

Okay so I thought, it's a battery problem. I purchased a second battery from eBay (not OEM) and the same issue occured. Same exact thing happened. I looked up the issue online and it appeared to be a soft brick. I forgot exactly what I did but I downloaded a recovery file and flashed it via ODIN and it turned on. Phew.

I gave the phone back to my aunt and a week later, the same thing happened. Phone dead. Won't start. Won't get past the Sprint boot animation. So I thought to myself, hmm ok. I'll just reflash and do what I did before. But I mean, how often do I have to keep doing this? And she loses data every time I have to flash the phone.

And so I did. I put it into download mode, opened ODIN, browsed for the md5 file (I forgot what file it was, I'm mad at myself for that now) and flashed the phone. It flashed successfully but this time, the phone wouldn't turn on. It kept vibrating as if it's about to turn on but then dies immediately. I left the phone on my desk for a while and all I could hear was *bzzt* [pause] *bzzt* [pause] *bzzt* and I'm thinking, okay. Time to get an OEM battery.

I finally found an original Samsung battery from an authorized Samsung dealer, I was pretty surprised he still had the battery in stock and bought it from him and ran home. Still the same thing. Kept buzzing but won't turn on. And if I do turn it on, it won't get past the Sprint boot animation.

So I looked and looked and looked and looked online and found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2755793

Long story short, I followed the instructions, flashed successfully with no errors, and now I can boot past the Galaxy logo, boot past the Samsung logo, and finally past the Sprint boot animation until I landed on the Samsung screen. Just a black screen with Samsung that seemed to have a glowing purple around it. I was getting excited. After about 10 seconds, it went to the main welcome screen (the Google setup thing) with the next button and the language selector in the bottom. I was on that screen for about 2 seconds AND THE PHONE TURNED OFF. Back to the battery screen.

What am I doing wrong? Is there something wrong with the phone? Battery? Am I flashing the wrong software? If so, can someone please direct me to the right place?

P.S. If you're thinking, "dude just get her a new phone" she does have a new one now. It's a Galaxy S7 but I really really want to know what's wrong with this phone and it's been annoying me lol

What's the correct model to get for use in Japan (and how!)?

Still love my Z3 but MM OTA update fried the wifi&bt within a week. (Bad Sony. Bad.) So OP3 I'm ready for you.

I'm going to order a USA version and have my friend ship it to tokyo.
  • question1- Is there a better way to get one? After all, it's originating in China...

  • question2- Is USA version the way to go? The only info I have to rely on is the result from http://willmyphonework.net :

OnePlus 3 North America Model + Japan + Japan Travel SIM (data only)
2G Network: Carrier Network does not support 2G
3G Network: 2100MHz
4G LTE Network: Band1-2100MHz

my Z3 D6653 works fine here in tokyo and is described as:

Quote:

FD-LTE Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 28, 40, 41, 42, 43, TD-LTE Band 40; UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz; GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz

What's the package for Service Provider update?

Randomly, out of no where, started getting "Service Provider Update" dialog about install software for my sim. Accepting it throws it into recovery with an error.

What's the package for it so I can disable it?

Help! Officially Unlocked Bootloader. Whats next?

I have a few questions.

1. Do I need to root the phone separately using super su? Or just flashing twrp will do the job?

2. Do I need different super su zip files for different roms ? Or any super su file will work?

3. Whats the best stable rom right now? [ Miui or any custom ]

What's causing pop adds on my phone?

I deleted some apps that I recently installed but I'm still seeing adds on my phone. It's not just in browsers but in places like gallery when I'm viewing my photos. The weird thing is I started to notice this when I installed adaway. But I uninstalled this and other apps but it didn't help. It takes up the whole screen and i have to click no thanks to install whatever its saying to install. Any way to find out what's causing this?

Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Free mobile app

What's going on with development?

Sorry if I sound demanding or anything, but the past month or so the development for the E3 has completely stalled. I don't want this device to be abandoned... :(

What's happening when enabling "Enable OEM Unlock" Option

Hi guys,

I'm wondering what's actually happening on the phone when enabling this option... does it change something on the bootloader?

Thanks

ps: if someone has already wrote about it, can I have the link please?

[DISCUSSION] So now you're rooted. What's next?

So, many of us have used the released Engineering Bootloader and have gained glorious root. But what does that really mean for users now? Some of us are stoked about being able to finally block ads with AdAway. Others are looking forward to using Xposed again.

What does root mean for you? What cool apps or toolkits do you utilize with root? I want this to be a useful thread for people new to rooting in Marshmallow or just rooting in general. Post your setup and apps and explain a little bit about why you use them.

What's your next device? Note 7 or something else?

I'm assuming a lot of you are like me, and have had the Note 4 close to 2 years now- close to paid for... wondering if anyone is considering getting a Note 7 or something else and why?

I was all excited about upgrading to a Note 7 but the limited research I've done based on the S7 is the bootloader will probably be locked meaning no root, no roms, etc... so now I'm not sure if I just stick it out a while long with my Note 4 or look elsewhere for another device? (nexus ###?)

Comments appreciated.
