6.0.1 customization advice

Have: Nexus 6P stock 6.0.1. Need: some customization.

I've enabled Developer Mode and System UI Tweaker. I'd like to do this without root, or anything that would affect individual Google Play-installable apps. (The reason is, I need this device for final user release testing, so it should be what users have just from factory reset + install apps and normal OS upgrades):
  1. Different wallpaper on Lock Screen than behind icons and widgets. (Tried: http://forums.androidcentral.com/and...-can-i-do.html - No triple dot menu visible in Wallpaper)

  2. Full brightness on Lock screen, independent of brightness settings. ("OK" option: same brightness as manual brightness in Settings) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...tness-t1704705 - no Lock Screen Options in Settings)

  3. Disable peeking globally. ("OK" option: put them in the statusbar like 4.4.4) (I don't want to disable peeking for every new app I install: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Heres...mallow_id75408)

  4. Global saturation setting for icons. (They're all saying "click ME!", that's an icon designer's job. With an excellent high-contrast screen like this, it's a crowd shouting.) ("OK" option: some other way of getting icons to look more Zen.)

  5. Remove the Google Now bar from my Home Screen (without disabling any services). (As in, I taught the device my voice, so I don't need it there for me to tap. Tried: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-re...oid-homescreen - it's not long-tappable nor draggable, nor does it appear under Google Apps in Widgets.)

I'd like to be able to do this:

  6. Some quick way (preferably swipe) to access a more compact Quick Settings widget, like on my Xperia Z. I've reduced it to 9, can't remove "Invert Colors" and Location toggles.

  7. Global Night Mode for everything in the System UI - to make it look similar to the Quick Settings. (This is a "like to" only because it's been promised in N. I really need it like, now. :))

Basically I have the greatest phone, so I want it to look good at all times, and with the aim Clean, Fresh, Zen. :)

I posted here bc the forum was most specific. Feel free to refer or advise me how to best get answers as I joined tonight.

Any & all advice on single questions is appreciated :) Not possible is a valid answer, and I'm also prepared to wait for N if that's the answer.

[Q] Cellular service issues after broken display - Please advice?

Hi everyone.

Please help if you have any advice :(

I dropped my laptop on my OPO and I broke both displays (both OPO and laptop).

This sucks bad because I can barely afford to fix one, let alone two.

I did fix the OPO and - this is weird - I am getting service issues.

I went back to the repair guy (really nice person), and he opened the OPO in front of me and showed me that the antenna is well connected so no issue there.

The issue is very odd: I do get to register my sim on the network (or at least it does show my carrier) but my reception is barely there.

Now I know the OPO has issues showing signal bar (right?) but in any case my signal bar always shows no signal.

I resetted everything and even went back to stock OxygenOS firmware (I think).

Getting barely any service. Tried a different SIM - same problem.

Possible new lg g2 owner ,need advice.

Thinking about picking up a 2nd hand lg g2 T-Mobile phone and was wondering what you guys with this phone think of it.

1.How is the battery life? I use my current phone a lot for web use and I'm looking for something that will give me good battery life .

2.How is the custom ROM choices for this phone?

Advice needed: root or not to root?

Hi all.
I'm a long-time Android user. I managed to make my old HTC One M7 running alternately cyanogenmod and Google Play edition last for three years or so, and just switched this week to a lovely new S7 here in the UK.

It looks to be the perfect phone- very fast, nicely designed, lovely camera.

The first thing I did was install CF-autoroot, but I chose not to affect the system partition with the decryption option yet as I didn't know whether this would be strictly necessary yet. Then i installed titanium backup and restored all my apps and app-data from the HTC.

So, here I am a few days in, and I'm considering whether I should de-root it and go back to stock. My battery life isn't great, and by my reading it really should be. I'm getting to need a charger by ~7pm.

Things I want:
1- android pay is excellent- the option to never have to have my wallet with me is really attractive.
2- good battery life

In the past I've been a great fan of having TWRP to do backups, and switching between different ROMS using titanium backup to restore apps. I've always run xposed to tweak things.

Now, my basic understanding here is that xposed and root mean that I can't use android pay. That really does swing it for me.
Unfortunately the battery life is also currently a problem. I'd like to get rid of all the useless samsung bloat as well.

The options appear to me to be:

1. Wipe and go full stock, unrooted.
2. Remove verity and start from scratch with a debloated ROM. Lose android pay.
3. Stay as I am and accept that the battery probably isn't as good as I'd hoped.
4. Unrooted stock and somehow debloat without using root (don't know how to do this without titanium backup 'feeze' option).

Is there an optimum way forward here? I'd appreciate advice.

Using a Surface Pro 2, almost there, but seeking advice to go the rest of the way

I have a Surface Pro 2 that runs Remix OS PC 3 well enough, it just doesn't sleep it very well. Based on some complaints from regular Linux distributions I figured out that the lid closed switch freaks out on wakeup. That can be taken care of easily enough with a

Code:

echo LID0 disabled > /proc/acpi/wakeup

Now 90% of the time the tablet wakes up correctly. That last 10% it still has problems. What happens, and this was the same as before adjusting LID0, is the screen comes on full brightness, then either turns off or freezes after a few seconds. Either way, a reboot is required to fix it. I can usually get to the debug terminal, but the graphical display is broken.

Another remaining issue is the wifi. Once it's working, it works well enough, except that the region stuff isn't set, so the driver doesn't enable 5ghz. On Ubuntu

Code:

modprobe mwifiex reg_alpha2=US

will get it working, but the region information doesn't appear to be in Remix, because that doesn't enable 5ghz, or produce the expected cfg80211 initialization messages. Any advice on setting wifi region in Remix?

Is there any init.d type mechanism I can tap into? I tried using kernel adiutor's init.d emulation, but despite toast messages suggesting it's working, I still have to manually disable LID0.

Advice requested on root path

I previously owned an HTC One M8 which I rooted using the weaksauce/firewater method. I recently banged up the phone and bought a Samsung Galaxy G5 which I also rooted (took forever) but I didn't like it so I bought and just received a new (used) HTC One M8 (HTC6525LVW) running Android 5.0.1 which I would like to root.

I've googled, checked the forums and have found a ton of information so I'm looking for some very high level guidance. I'm up for just about anything including downgrading my version of Android but I'm not sure of the best move. I'm only interested in root. Any other benefits are fine but my goal is to get root access so I can run my ad blocker, titanium backup etc.

I don't need any sort of step by step instructions just an indicator of the best method and I'll do all the rest. Thank you for the help!

ROM and / or Update Help / Advice please

While I am fairly technically proficient, my father is not. My father has a Sprint Galaxy S6 and the bloatware drove him nuts. So I removed said bloatware. He does not care about Facebook, online banking, or any apps. He only uses the phone for Phone, Text and E-mail and the occasional road trip he will use Google play music.

I rooted, and removed his junk apps, installed TWRP and xPosed so I could make private mode work for him (Wanam Xposed module). However whenever samsung pushes an update, he tells me that in spite of him saying "no", it will still force the update - which causes it to fail, and reboot into TWRP. So he wakes up, wondering if he missed an important call and has to figure out how to reboot from TWRP (again, he is an older gentleman, not at all tech literate, and is your typical "I just want it to work" old man)

So can anyone suggest a custom ROM or a way to make the updates not download like they used to when it was "modified in an unauthorised way" ?

Fixing an old issue. Advice needed.

Hello there. Roughly 4 months ago I bougth a second E980 as a replace for an old one who got some strange issues on its screen (random/ghost touches and -progresively- dead digitizer, display was ok), just to find that the new one started to show the same issues.

I tried to replace the digitizer alone on the older one and that worked only for a short time, and now I wonder if changing the whole digitizer+LCD display could fix the issue...what do you think? had you experienced a similar problem in the past? is adviceable to buy the whole screen replacement? is this a software problem? should I pass of this phone and curse to the skies like a mad man?

Sorry for the crappy grammar.

New to this - advice needed

I have entered the world of modding and found my way to this forum because of Pokemon Go.

I wanted to give the game a try to see what all the fuss is about but can't run it on my phone - it's a blackberry provided by my employer.

So I dug out an old S3 I9300 from the drawer of old phones, but soon found that the version of Android (4.3 Jelly Bean) is too old. I am very IT literate and technically capable so I started researching what to do. I have now rooted my phone and have the following ROM and GAPPS files ready to go - CM11 (Kit Kat), CM12 (Lollipop) and CM13 (Marshmallow).

I don't need any technical help, just advice on which ROM to go for. Should I just go for the latest (CM13) or is that unstable and too much for my phone. Or should I go with CM11 because that is the latest 'official' CyangenMod release. Or should I go with CM12 as a comprise between newness and sufficient releases to address any problems.

My main aim at the moment is to play Pokemon but now that I have discovered modding I suspect that I will be experimenting more.

Cheers,

Nigel

Need some advice for bootloop issue

I bought my LG G4 September last year so its still in warranty (the silver lining).

I updated to MM 1st of July and my goodness what a difference they made with memory management!

Today, it just powered off and has been looping.

I can boot into recovery to do a factory reset, i can boot into download mode.

So far ive followed the guides, downgraded to lollipop and gone for the big core tot option, all using the LGUP tool.

Sometimes it loops, sometimes it actually gets into the OS, then loops. I decided the app loss was worth getting a working phone so did a hard reset, but even that seems to loop.

Best Current Advice for new Fire Phone user? (battery life, reduce heat, carousel)

Just starting out with the Fire Phone, unlocked version being used with T-Mobile.

Found the YouTube instructional video for loading the Google Play Store and got it to work fine after about 27 updates to the phone and store downloaded.

After trying a half dozen different launchers, went back to the stock version as seemed to work the smoothest and couldn't get any others to do what I wanted anyway.

Questions for current users:

1. Phone gets warmer than any phone I've used before. Is this normal?

2. Any way to dock a useful time/date widget and a weather widget on the home screen (or front of the Carousel)?

3. Any way to get rid of or minimize the mostly useless Carousel without using a different launcher? I'd rather see my wallpaper and place a few icons around the screen, then it'd be perfect.

4. If no way to remove the Carousel without using a different launcher, is there a launcher that gives a simple, clean interface and the ability to have your own wallpaper, a date/time and weather widget on home screen, and standard icon and icon folder placement ability? None of the ones I tried gave me that. I find it bizarre that custom wallpaper is not a standard option on every single launcher.

5. Battery life is pretty bad. Walking around for just about two hours yesterday playing Pokemon Go drained my 100% battery entirely. Is that normal?

6. I'm seeing people mention "turning off fancy stuff" and the like in threads here to improve battery life, but cannot find where anyone says what specifically to turn off or how to turn it off...help?

7. Any way to customize the left-hand tilt menu? It is mostly useless links...the "Music" link doesn't even go to Prime Music -- what's up with that? I'd like to customize what gets launched from the links, but it seems impossible.

8. The "swipe up" back button feature is really annoying as it is so picky and just plain doesn't work in some situations and some apps. Any way to improve it?

9. Any way to tell what apps are currently running to close some? My last phone would show the list if you held down the main button, but this phone just brings up a microphone service when I do that.

10. Is Alexa on the Fire Phone a junior version? It can't do anything I ask it and I'm used to Alexa from my Fire TV. I want to do stuff like "Alexa Play Adele" or "Alexa What Time is It?" but it just shows the "I can't do that" text. (On a related point...any way to get the "Okay Google..." talking function?)

11. Is the GPS a bit weak? Maps don't always load, rather annoying.

12. When I'm talking on the phone, I can't figure out how to get the screen to turn on again if I have to enter numbers, change speakerphone, or check something. Others phones just automatically turn on when I take it away from my ear, but the screen just stays off with this one. Is there a button to push to get it turn on again?

My primary uses for the phone are Prime Music, the Camera, and texting, so it is really a great phone for me. With more reliable mapping, better battery life, and a good back button, it'd be an excellent phone despite the other above gripes.

If you can help with any of the above questions, that'd be great. Thanks!

First time Rooting, vs98611a, advice? Should I update first or stick with 11a?

So, I've never rooted a phone before, a tablet yes, but that was almost 10 years ago. I can follow instructions, and am technically literate, but I'm worried about bricking my phone, so simple is better. Basicly I have an verizon LG G4 that I want to root. Primarily because I need to do some GPS spoofing, and mobile hotspot stuff. The version is 11a, Should I be trying to update that first? or is there a guide out there somewhere? I've found this thread

HTML Code:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/root-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765

Is this what I'm looking for?

I'm not sure if my software version matters or will limit my root options in anyway. Thanks in advance!

Looking for some Help with rooting, and maybe some General Advice.

Hello all and thank you for stopping by to assist me. I am trying to root my Verizon LG G3. I am not sure what all information you need so I am just going to post as much information as possible about my device below.

Model Number : VS985 4G
Hardware Version : Rev. 1.0
Android Version : 6.0
Kernel Version : 3.4.0-perf-gf128999
Build Number : MRA58K
Software Version : VS98546A

And that is all I can think of. I tried to OneClickRoot or whatever it is but it says my device is not supported. I tried to follow some Youtube Videos, but the all lead to "Do my survey, my links are legit, I promise" stuff so... I got no where.

Can anyone help lead me in the direction to getting my device rooted?

Also I see a lot about TWRP? Anyone willing to elaborate on what that is or if its something I want?
