Is android release schedule accelerating?

Marshmallow seems barely out the door with various app developers still not compatible with it, and yet 7.0 Nougat is coming end of summer. There is not even a 6.1 release whilst past versions of android had .1 .2 .3 etc.

Is the schedule still the same or even faster now?
