Fastboot and going from 5.1 to 6.0 custom roms?

I got H81110n and stock 5.1. Fast boot is being bypassed when trying to boot into it. Am i missing something obvious? Is it ok once rooted to go from 5.1 to 6.0 custom roms without any special additional steps?
