I have made a music visualizer app that can make your device's notification led pulse with in sync with the beats.
It doesn't have any bugs as far as i can tell but it does lack customization. So far it only pulses with the bass in the music playing, the harder the bass the brighter the led glows. It works with any kind of audio playing on the device, so that means you can use it with youtube background, default music player or any other music player app of your choice.
Since it is non-root, the only way to get led glowing is by keeping the device's display off.
To see the led glow pulse to bass, just play the music in the background, launch the app and turn the display off and the led should start pulsing immediately. Make sure to clear all the notifications as they can cause interference while running the app.
I have tested it on my xiaomi Mi4i and it works perfectly on it, but i don't know which other devices are supported as i only have one device with notification led and emulators don't have led testing capabilities yet.
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in trying out the app on their device, if you are just let me know.
